I'm Scott Widdes, a Partner at United Roof Consultants. My journey in the roofing industry began in 1984 when I founded Widdes Roofing, a residential re-roof company. We started focusing on Alcoa Aluminum synthetic shakes and Gerard Stone Steel Tiles and eventually expanded to include conventional roofing products. Our business grew to encompass commercial sales and eventually expanded to include conventional roofing products. Our business grew to encompass commercial sales and services, securing larger projects with HOAs and building owners. I also obtained my General Contractor’s license and added carpentry to our offerings, installing skylights, patios, and windows. Over 14 years, Widdes Roofing grew from a one-bedroom apartment operation to a company with over 60 employees and a fleet of vehicles, installing over 3,500 roofs in San Diego County. Eventually, I decided to sell the company and explore other ventures.
My passion for construction began with my father, a General Contractor. While completing my Business Degree at San Diego State University, I worked for Widdes Construction, my father's business, and managed developing a 16-unit townhome project. After a few years in Los Angeles, where I managed a print shop, co-owned a Christmas tree lot, and led sales teams, I returned to San Diego. Responding to a newspaper ad, I entered the roofing industry to promote Alcoa Country Cedar Shakes. From there, my career in roofing took off.
